Just a noobile question but as popular as COD4 multiplayer has been for so long I don't understand why new maps haven't been developed over the years. I'm sure Activision could've made some moola on downloadable add-ons or something. Your thoughts?

This is a fun question.

I am not a software development guru, but that would require some sort of systematic "management" of the server lobby environment to match users who have paid for downloadable map add-ons with the servers where those maps are available. I know other games do that (like the Battlefield series) but that would require an overhaul for COD4. There are additional maps available in 1.7 and I'd encourage you to check out if you wanted to try a dual patch setup.

Again, no guru, but what Infinity Ward did do was introduce the ability for servers to host "mods". These range from changing certain gameplay characteristics all the way to completely custom maps, player skins, and gameplay dynamics. I have tried out a painyball mod and believe there's a zombie mod which has been pretty popular, and many "elite" players used to credit "promod" play for helping them become so good. Gameservers offers a handful of mods (see attached) and I tried to get a Star Wars mod up and online in conjunction with Episode VII, but was never able to figure it out (I could see the server in the list and it was rotating through maps, but I was never able to connect). There are some modded servers available in 1.2; just go to the multiplayer lobby through Filter Servers > simply select All/Yes/No for the Mods option. Getting them to run includes some sort of download and the game will also "restart" into COD4 MOD Warfare mode.
