Just wanted to touch base and see how everyone is doing. Turning out to be some hard, unexpected times.

Canada is now just getting to the point of shutting down schools. Toilet paper is still to hot for the shelves.

Everyone's health is ok?

Hello Ruddy, in Brazil as in the whole world I believe, the rush is great. Schools closing, events canceled, any agglomeration is prohibited. Food, alcohol gel, paper and other things disappearing from the supermarkets. Alertness is general and we have already exceeded 1,600 infected. Brazil is lacking in the medical sector. We really count on God and that a vaccine is soon discovered. I miss playing with you. see you soon if God allows.

This is the greatest freaking hoax ever perpetuated on man. I swear to God there is no reason for all this stupid panic.

97% recovery rate, at least.

I cannot state it enough, there is no reason for all this god damn panic. The flu is much more contagious, has more severe symptoms, and a greater mortality rate among all age groups. Absolute silence from everyone.

This disease gives you a bit of a cough and a URI for just about a week, usually a little less, and then you're over it and immune. Making everyone suffer as if some damn Biblical Plague with no chance of anyone surviving has swept through the entire population is completely pointless.

And keep watching for this in the media, you'll see it pop up sooner or later: Total infected. Meaning the total number of people who have had the disease since it was discovered. That's the number they'll switch to reporting. They won't tell you the number of current cases. Just the sum total. So as people start recovering they'll be trying to instill further panic by implying that everyone who has ever had the disease still has it and has never gotten better. As soon as the number of current cases drops below the sum total of cases, they'll start reporting the larger number. There might be only one person in your entire state/province that has it. They'll still report that 500 confirmed cases have been diagnosed.

Hello Ruddy and all
In Denmark we closed the schools on Thursday. Land borders closed on Monday.
I work at a school, so it takes place now from home now.
Me and my family are (hopefully) still well. I hope all of you clan members are too.

Take care all

Hi Ruddy and all! In Virginia the stores are being sold out. Not just the medical type stuff, but just about everything. Toilet paper I understand getting some extra. But I've seen bottled water being hoarded. Not sure the logic in it as the water here out of the city is safe as any city. But those choices are their choices.

No one I know is sick here yet. But I can't go out anyway. The school's are closed and people that work in other places have to stay home with their children, so the restaurants and businesses are closed. We will see. My prayers are for this to end soon so we can stay healthy and live happy lives.

And NILREM who whizzed in your Wheaties?

Wow. Ok, I'm the percentage that if I get sick either with the flu or the coronavirus I will die. Cease to exist as a person on the planet. I'm old and sick. The cancer and the chemo has made a mess of my system. So I guess even if you get it, that won't be a problem for you. I'm happy for you. And if everyone that is healthy gets it and are fine, it makes the surety of the people like me to get it. So that will solve the Medicare and social security issue in the US.

Sure the media likes to hype this up, and some are panicking. It is unavoidable. But NILREM your response was not appropriate to Ruddy's heartfelt concern with our health and welfare. It was rude. I hope you stay well, because you didn't say how you and your family are were doing.

Quite frankly I do not care if it was rude. This panic is completely uncalled for.

For the elderly, those with immune compromise, and people with existing health conditions, of course it's going to have more of an effect. But that's the same with every disease.

SARS, H1N1, Ebola, West Nile, Zika, Anthrax...every damn year there is a new "minor" bug out (Ebola symptoms are anything but minor, but there is almost zero chance of catching it in a developed nation so I'm counting it) and there has been no such hysteria ever.

People go on with their lives for all of them....and now the most innocuous of them all (the average person gets a cough and a 100.4 degree fever for a few days) comes through and people just lose their minds. Why the hell is Whataburger shut down? They didn't shut down for H1N1 when 59 Million were infected and 12,000 died.

When did people become so cowardly? Spoiler Alert: LIFE HAS A MORTALITY RATE OF 100%

There is no such thing as "saving lives" as everyone likes to proclaim. You merely give someone a chance to die of something else. So if you're guaranteed to die, why not freaking live? Oh wait, we can't because we're afraid of dying now.

It's just so insanely stupid.

Hey all..

My family is all ok atm but quarantined @ home....

Total mayhem here in Norway, all schools, state, county and non necessary shops closed. Most people working from home, unemployment exploded
With a little "sniffle" you get 3 weeks quarantine @ home, dont even get tested for the virus..
To me this is totaly "idiocraty", but I`m not in charge, so I follow rules...
Goverment have stopped hoarding, so we do have toiletpaper and other things needed :-)

Nil,

Sorry, buddy, but this is not a hoax. Some of the news outlets have gone full "zombie apocalypse," but that is because of their strong desire to somehow harm the President. To see the greater impact, one just has to watch what has transpired in Italy and now Spain. Yes, the general recovery rate, especially for young people, is very good, but that is NOT the reason for putting social distancing policies into place. In Italy, people are stacked like cord wood in the medical facilities. Part of that is socialized medicine, but it is also their medical system being completely overwhelmed. A great deal of that had to do with a large segment of their population "poo-pooing" any type of distancing practices. The young crowd kept going to bars, etc. even when they were infected. This caused a cascading effect and giant spike in infections. To say, "I'm young and it won't be a big deal for me, so I'm going to keep doing what I always do," is selfish and doesn't consider that fact that they will still possibly infect a number of other people, of varying ages.

I'm old, but don't really have any fear of catching the virus. My wife's immune system is compromised from medication she takes for arthritis. I DO NOT want her to get this, because she is at risk for the virus going into her lungs. The real concern is that we can also have an overwhelmed medical system. My daughter is an RN at a VA hospital. She's not an alarmist, but she is in agreement with many of the things being put in place to "flatten" the spread of the virus. That's what this is all about. It has little to do with recovery rates of millenials (OK, Boomer...). In the US, the local and state governments have taken measured responses that are designed to spread out the infection over a longer period of time. This will keep the medical system from being swamped, which is what will happen if infections spike, as they did in China and parts of Europe.

The only "hoax" is the fear-mongering and Trump Derangement Syndrome we see in the main stream media. It's OK to be concerned about the economic impact of the distancing measures, but if the spread is contained, the economy will recover quickly. The US is economically better than it has been in decades and is resilient.

Oh, and this is NOT H1N1, so don't make too many comparisons.

1. The administration in charge at the time of H1N1 ignored taking any measures until the deaths were mounting in the thousands.
2. COVID-19 is much more communicable and more deadly (at least to segments of population) than H1N1.

To say, "Oh, well, we're all going to die sometime," is extremely insensitive, even if it is true. Every once in a while, just once in a while, we have to think about the greater population and not just about ourselves.

Sorry. My post was to how nice Ruddy was to express concern for us. Some of the posts were not in response to her concern. I appreciate her concern.

All these issues may be valid about the panic, I'm not going to say either way. However, your tone was not called for in response to Ruddy. It was rude to Ruddy. You should apologize to her.

Thank you Ruddy for your concern.
