So I just played in the server about an hour ago. Everything was fine. I left the game did some stuff around the house and came back in to the game.
There have been no changes to my computer at all. It hasn't even rebooted.
When I went back into the game, my profile was at Level 1 with no perks or anything.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

Well Nil, your file is corrupted. If you look there may be a Mpdata file that shows as corrupted. I have one. Was not able to recover, just had to start again. Then I kept saving the whole program. When the program died again, I just replaced everything. Worked.
The only hope I think is to copy over the mpdata and config_mp from your saved copy. Of course, these don't save anywhere automatically. I found out the hard way.
Good luck. Trogg

Unfortunately that file is not anywhere on my computer at all. When I right click the executable to see what directory it points to, I get this: steam://rungameid/7940And that's it. The game does not exist anywhere on my computer as far as I am able to find. So it seems there is no way to back up anything. Finally found the file. Tried to replace it with my files from the previous version of the game but that didn't work.

Sorry. It has to be the same version.
Looks like you are in the same boat I was in. But it won't take you near as long to rise up in level as it took me.
Maybe some one else has a solution to try.
Sorry. Trogg

I haven't been level 55 in months. Everytime I get up to around level 40 or so, my profile resets me back to 0.
The only thing you can do is when you get to 55(and in my case if I get to level 55) is copying and saving your profile, I case it does it again.
Edit: Log on just now - and I'm restarting...again.

Ok this is sounding serious. I haven't lost mine is quite a while now. Last time was due to a hard drive crash. From what I can tell, these two files, mpdata and config_mp, pretty much make up who we are. They interact with the server. They are both in the profile folder. As you know there are many things that could go wrong if it were only one person having a problem. But if more than one, most likely it has to be something with the server modifying the files. Next time you play, search for what files are changed. Also Ruddy and NIlrem, don't you have multiple profiles set up? I guess when it happens to one it happens to all, other wise you could just switch profiles? I look to see what mine does after playing. if we can determine the files changed we might be able to at least save progress. If the situation is not wide spead, maybe there is something you guys have in common. Just trying to help, Jim Edit: Nilrem my icon shows my executable in the steam folder but not steam: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4\iw3mp.exe" Do you guys have that in common? I don't have steam running.

I do have two profiles set up. But one is much less advanced than the other....well it was until this little snafu reversed things lol
And it wasn't just my stats that were erased. All of my key binds and configurations were gone too. Hell, my name even reverted back to [TRD]_Nilrem from my old tags when I first started playing on this server years ago.
If this is a pattern we definitely need to identify it and stop it from happening again if possible.

Well that is an important clue. While we set our config_mp selections, they are really stored in the mpdata file for the server/program to use. These are updated during the game by the server/program.
It seems like a updating issue instead of a crashing issue. I suspect that when the file is wrongly or incorrectly updated, the file is set to default. Or in your case the wrong profile. It is strange as each profile has it's own mpdata file.
Suggestion: Move any profiles that you have other than the one you want to use. Place them in a folder so you could get them if you still want this. This hopefully would prevent any wrong re-directing of the updates. I'm basing this on the possibility you have a profile of the [TRD]_Nilrem.
I don't know but is your program running through STEAM somehow? If so can you change that?
I suspect you are running the game as an admin, but I'd check that again. Windows updates screw things up most times.
Also, computer security might be an issue. I run Windows 10, with AVG and Windows defender running. I have no issues with these.
Working on the which program controls the updating. probably will not find out, but will try. Let me know it any of this helps.
Hope this helps.
Edit: I found one solution which may not work but hey worth the try. In the selected profile folder, locate the Mpdata. corrupt and mpdata file. Rename the Mpdata file to mpdataold, change the mpdata.corrupt file to mpdata. For some reason, this holds the last settings. I'm going to play with this, but it still doesn't tell why it does it. Don't do this. mpdata.corrupt does not contain this. When I did this it just reset the settings to default. Renamed the files worked back to the correct names, I was back to normal. Still playing with it...
Another update:I copied my mpdata file from one profile to another, and got all of the rank, unlocks, etc. It then played just like the new profile. So if you have a old profile, this is the file you need. Still researching. If feels like I'm back at work again! Wish I had the source code.
Another update: I'm leaning toward the anti-virus causing write errors of the file. Recommend use the setting that allows the game as an exception.

Nilrem, does it ask you to add your key code again? This is the common with mine. My profile gets reset, but I am pretty sure any configurations I have done stay.
Thanks for being Detective Trogg. I will have to look closer at my files on my next days off.
